Practically speaking, I made the decision to become a plastic surgeon when I was 17 years old. For better or worse, I didn’t do the math: It took 15 years from that point in time to fulfill my dream (4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, 5 years of general surgery residency, and 2 years of plastic surgery residency. Whew!!!)

As a newly-minted plastic surgeon setting up my private practice, I struggled mightily with the business side of medicine. It didn’t take long before I realized I was in over my head when it came to marketing, selling, billing, hiring, business systems, and money management. To be completely honest, I was thoroughly pissed off.

After all those years of training and sacrifice, all I wanted to do was see patients, hang out in the operating room, and make the world a better place. Instead, I was left feeling humiliated and ashamed because my practice was hemorrhaging money faster than a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm and I didn’t have a clue how to fix it.

And I was ANGRY because I because none of this stuff was ever mentioned in medical school or residency.​​​​ One of the worst pieces of advice I was ever given was “Just do good work. The rest will take care of itself.” 

At one of my lowest points, I vividly recall my wife saying to me, “You’re going to die an early death, if you keep going like this.”

I felt trapped and helpless. 

In desperation, I began to look outside of medicine for ways to avoid total exsanguination.

I burned the midnight oil studying everything I could get my hands on about practical business topics like marketing, selling, systems, money management – all things you’d never learn in decades of typical medical education and training. (Might was well, since it was hard to sleep during those tough times.)

What happened next was totally unexpected…

…I realized that I had the heart and soul of an entrepreneur. Always had – but didn’t know what to do with it.

I had this feeling that could make a bigger impact on people’s lives by doing “surgery” on their business to help them make more money and keep more of what they make, than I could by doing facelifts and tummy tucks.

To make a long story short, I retired as a board-certified plastic surgeon at the age of 40, then hung out my shingle as a professional business coach.

But at the time, other than a “shingle,” I had no business cards, website, blog, business contacts, or success stories. In spite of this, I became somewhat of a folk legend in some circles after I created an annualized six-figure revenue stream in 73 days and then doubled it by the end of the year.

with my guidance, and using the systems and strategies that I created to build my sustained six-figure revenue stream, I helped others to achieve the same. In fact, one of my clients bested my record; he achieved his annualized six-figure revenue stream in 71 days. Another client, who had never earned more than $250/month from his coaching services, achieved $8,500 per month by his 99th day of working with me. 

Overcoming those devastating early setbacks ultimately inspired me to become the business guide and mentor I wished I’d had when I needed a helping hand. To this very nanosecond, that’s why I’m committed to helping fellow physicians who think and practice holistically to get more patients and put more profit in their pockets.

It’s a tall order, yet I believe that we can transform the heart and soul of our broken healthcare system. And we’re going to do it by transforming one holistic medical practice at a time.
